Hey, I’m Andrew aka the Drunken Prawn.
I was born in Singapore and spent my early years in Asia, so food has been embedded in my DNA. I try to champion diversity and have enjoyed watching London’s food journey since moving here in 2000.
Whilst trying to assimilate to UK life, my mum’s cooking was the only way I would get the much-needed taste of “home”. I grew increasingly fussy - I was a nightmare to be honest - always noticing when my mum had changed an ingredient in one of my favourite dishes. This fussiness got me helping her in the kitchen and saw me spending countless hours on YouTube before putting my learnings into practice.
There were three key catalysts for my obsession with cooking. The first was when my dad did our Christmas turkey in his Weber kettle grill for the first time, quite literally igniting a passion for fire food. The second was university and cooking for a house of four hungry blokes every day over the course of two years. This period affirmed the importance of food as a means of communication. The third was a couple of severe injuries that prevented me from physical activity - I needed a creative outlet so I just absorbed myself in cooking throughout recovery. The timing of this led straight into COVID lockdown, so I doubled down, started my Instagram page and eventually backed myself enough to start doing some events.
Thanks ever so much for checking out my site. I hope that I’ll see you eating my food or wearing my clothes in the near future!
Please get in touch if you have an opportunity for me.
Definitely check me out on Instagram.
Cheers, DP xx
